How Head Cottage is
situated on the east side of Coniston Water, half a mile from its northern end
(Grid Reference 318973).
If approaching from Coniston village take the turning for
Hawkshead by the church and follow the road for 1 mile to the top of the
lake; here turn right, signed for Brantwood. How Head
Cottage is half
a mile along this lane, on the right hand side, just after you have passed a
board for How Head House.
From Ambleside, as you enter Coniston, take the left turn
signed Hawkshead and follow this road to its other end where you turn left,
again signed Hawkshead; after half a mile, at the head of the lake, turn right
as above and How Head

a mile along this lane, on the right hand side, just after you have passed a
board for How Head House.
From
Hawkshead take
the Ambleside road and just out of the village turn left for Coniston; after
climbing Hawkshead Hill and then descending steeply you will come to the head of
Coniston Water where you turn left onto the East Side road (signed for
Brantwood). How Head

board for How Head House.
