Round About Us Beyond the immediate area of Coniston, the whole of the Lake District awaits you How Head Cottage is ideally placed to get out and enjoy, not just the immediate surroundings, but the whole of the Lake District. The lovely village of Hawkshead is just 3 miles over the hill, with Windermere a bit further on. Cross the lake by ferry to visit Bowness and the village of Windermere itself.. The Langdale valleys lie a short distance to the north and beyond there is Ambleside and the North Lakes. Go west to savour the delights of the Wrynose and Hardknott Passes, dropping into Eskdale and on into Wasdale, even as far as Muncaster, Ravenglass and St Bees Head. To the south, beyond Coniston Water, the Furness and Cartmel Peninsulas hold a wealth of lesser known attractions, Cartmel Priory, Furness Abbey, some lovely, unspoilt coastline, market towns and nature reserves among them. |
